Carlsbad Rueda Practice - Saturday Feb 2nd

Hello Everyone!
I am hosting a rueda practice for my students in my NEW Carlsbad rueda de casino class. If you would like join in the rueda we would love to have you! This is a beginners group so do expect basic beginner moves such as guapea, enchufla, dame, dile que lo, arriba tiempo Espana, un tarro, un tarro pero no la dejes and all the bulla calls I do. Below are a few pictures of the place in front of the Museum of making Music in Carlsbad where we will practice.

Here are the details:
What: Carlsbad Rueda Practice
When: Saturday, February 2nd from 12:00noon-2:00pm
Where: In front of the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad (Next to Legoland)
5790 Armada Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92008

This is strictly a practice so no teaching, just coaching, joking around, getting some exercise and most of all to have some fun in the sun. What better way to enjoy than dancing in front of the flower fields overlooking the ocean. This location is awesome! I believe in the phrase, “It takes a village to raise a casinero.” This could be the beginning of a new tradition. The Random Acts of Cuban Movement is starting to gain some momentum. What's next? Hmmmm..hiking in Calavera Hills and dancing rueda at the top of the old crator? Let's talk plans on Saturday!!

Yes, that's right! Let's start  creating more ways to build community, let's socialize, support our dancing friends, and meet in and  around town to exert our Cuban movement.

Last year we started with Casino on Cardboard and then it turned to Casino on Astroturf. Here is a list of collected ideas of different "random" acts of Cuban movement.

- Meet Up Rueda in the Park with Orange County Casineros
- Rueda in Buena Vista Park (Vista, CA)
- Casino in the Someone's Backyard
- Cuban Salsa Suelta up Fallbrook Monserate Mountains
- Casino in Someone's Living Room
- Timba/Rumba House Party with Live Drumming
- Rueda Flash Mob at the Ocean House
- Temecula Wine Tasting  Rueda Social Mob Squad
- Casino on Cardboard at Oceanside Harbor w/ BBQ Party
- Increase the Caravan's to  Curuye Parties from one car to three cars full of people
- Caravan on a Saturday Night to El Cuba Libre Saturday Timba Night in Burbank, CA.

I need a coordinating committee to help make this happen. If you are interested, please call me at (206)300-4523 or e-mail me at Let's make this our "Random Act of Cuban Movement" Bucket List and have fun in the journey getting there!

Where: Fletcher Cove Beach Park in Solana Beach: 111 South Sierra Avenue Solana Beach, CA 92075

To meet the needs of the intermediate/advanced casineros, I'll be sharing 3 new moves or ones that we all just forgot! There are so many, right??

Come learn 3 new/forgotten moves you can do for rueda and/or casino 1-on-1.
January's highlighted moves are:
1. Echufla con ronde (beginner move for kicks and giggles)
2. Enchufla y Casate con la hermana, la abuela, la prima, la suegra, tu madre: response "la tuya" (intermediate move)
3.Setenta Moderna from Seattle (advanced)

The "show-share-teach" a.k.a. SST will be at 4pm.

No charge, totally free but please bring a snack dish to share with everyone, chips, salsa, brownies, edename, veggies, crackers, hummus, drinks etc. These are just ideas.

We'll be at Fletcher Cove Beach Park. The exit from the I-5 is Lomas Santa Fe, then go west, towards the beach, all the way until it end. You'll run right into it. Find any side parking and come join us on the astroturf area over looking the ocean!

UPDATE 2013 San Francisco Rueda Festival - Feb 14th-17th

In 6 more weeks as of today, the biggest rueda festival in the US will take place with a long list of guest instructors, workshops and dancing until the wee hours of the morning for four days and nights. A highlight to mention this year is that Wilfredo Guilbiac Rodriguez from our own San Diego will be a guest instructor at this festival. PLUS, his performance group, Cubata, will be performing for the first time. So eight of us will be there! That's right! Cubata includes: Wilfredo, Evelyn, Sarina, Nabia, Rodrigo "Rudy", Noe, Raul and me. So we want cheerleaders out there to cheer us on! We will be performing on Sunday, Feb 16th and Willy will be doing his workshop on Cuban style body movement.

So if you have not purchased your ticket for the Festival here is the link.

Hope to see you there! Una bulla!
