I have just opened registration for my Beginner Level 1 Series from brand new dancers and anyone who wants to go through it again to hone in on the footwork and dance communication with your partner. The series is the beginning series of a 4 to 5-month commitment all the way to basic intermediate. Each month is a level and the teaching build off the previous month of training. So if you are ready to jump in, this is your one chance this year as this will be the only entrance to learn as a beginner for the remaining of the year, so don't procrastinate.

Maritza's Beginner Level 3 Registration Now Open - Starts Mar. 5th

Greetings Casineros,
I have the registration for my Beginner Level 3 class ready to go for anyone who wants to keep going into my next series level (LEVEL 3 BEGINNERS). This one-month rueda class series is set up for Beginner Level 2 Cuban salsa dancers. This mean, dancers have completed Beginner Levels 1 and 2 and already know the following dance commands: Guapea, Dame, Dile Que No, Enchufla, Exhibela, Adios/Prima, Pa'l Medio, Pa'bajo, Echeverria, Matala series, Un Fly series and a few add-on's to the above mentioned moves).

BailAtlanta - Full Weekend of Cuban Music & Dance - June 14-16

I am so excited about this event because it is their 10th year anniversary and they are making it BIG! I am hoping all of you consider going to this event because they have incredible dance instructors who teach with technique on casino and rueda. I have gone in the past to their 3-Day Cuban parties and it just seems that every dancer is sooo good, and it is a reflection of their teachers. I plan to go! so if anyone is interested, please let me know so we can look at flights together and plan accommodations as well. It's cheaper to share expenses for traveling if we do this together.

Seattle Cuban Dance Fest - July 11-14th

Greetings Casineros,
For those of you looking to travel to learn to dance Cuban, here is a festival that is on its 3rd round of offering dance workshops and dance parties in the beautiful Seattle location of the University of Washington Seattle. This is the best time to travel out to the Northwest because of all the long daylight each day offers. The sun goes down at 10:30pm!!!! I know, right!??? This is where I modeled our Casino on Cardboard idea that I implemented in San Diego. They do Casino on Cardboard every Friday in the summer and it will be there during this festival. Start saving your vacation accrual for work or if you have the time and $$, you should make a trip to check this out.  I already have my pass. Last year, I went for the first time and I absolutely loved it!! They offer dorm accommodations on the campus to make it convenient for walking to the workshops. Ask me (Maritza) about this event because I can tell you how to prepare.

Hansel Melgares was born in La Vibora «barrio» of Havana, Cuba. He is a master Cuban instructor, DJ, performer of traditional Cuban dances such as rumba, son, timba, casino, and folkloric Afro Yoruba dances.

He built his own dance academies (3) in Sardinia, Italy, where he has taught for twelve years. In 2009 he participated in Timbalaye, a biannual international festival in his hometown of Havana. There he taught alongside other master instructors like Domingo Pau, Ulises Mora, and Irma Castillo.

In 2010 he performed at Sistina Theatre in Rome with Clave de Son Academy. He taught from 2005 to 2013 at the event «De Cuba para el mundo» in Sardinia. He has taught at the San Francisco Salsa Rueda Festival from 2015 to 2019 and Albuquerque Latin Festival 2017.

La Gozadera Cuban Nights in Escondido - Sat. Mar 2nd

Here we go again! Join us for the only Timba Party in North County, where we always guarantee you a good time! San Diego Casineros have joined forces to bring north county just what everyone has been asking for.  DJ Warapo from LA will be spinning the latest in Cuban music with some good ol’ classics. Warapo has DJ from Local events to all over the world including the largest festival in Cuba.

Special Guest Instructor Hansel Melgares in the house. Hansel will be leading a salsa suelta class at 6:30pm and performing for us, don’t miss it! For Hansel’s bio click here. He is leading dance workshops in Escondido before the party, so come learn from this amazing master instructor.

Beginner Level 2 of Rueda de Casino will start tomorrow. Same bat time! Same bat channel! To Enter Level 2, you must already know pa'l medio, caminamos, Un tarro,  dile que no, enchufla, & enchufla doble, Un fly, matala, & chequendengue (at minimum)

Beginner Level 2 will be focused on basic turn patterns (Adios/Prima, Pa'bajo, Exhibela and, if there is time, Vacilala
