In L.A: CUBAN POPULAR DANCE WORKSHOPS w CUBA's BAN RRA RRA DANCERS!

      CURUYE CULTURAL EDUCATION PROJECT is thrilled to invite you to a  very special DAY of CUBAN POPULAR DANCE WORKSHOPS with Cuban dancers YASELIS SÁNCHEZ and JUSTO CERUTO, from Cuba’s esteemed music and dance company, BAN RRA RRA. They are passing through L.A. before returning to La Habana, fresh from the BAN RRA RRA’s performance and teaching tour in Miami, and in San Francisco! 

The workshops today are designed for dancers with experience in RUEDA de CASINO (Intermediate workshop), and for the ADVANCED RUEDA de CASINO workshop participants will need to be able to dance ‘a contratiempo’ as CUBAN SON is danced.

SCHEDULE:

12-1:20 PM: INTERMEDIATE RUEDA de CASINO with CUBAN STYLING

1:30-2:50 PM: CUBAN SON contratiempo (dancing ‘on 2’ Cuban style)

3:00-4:20 PM ADVANCED RUEDA de CASINO - 'a Contratiempo'

This class will be given ‘a contratiempo’ ‘dancing on 2’ Cuban style. Participants in this class should dance 

Cuban Son.

BIOS: YASELIS SÁNCHEZ CORREA, is the principal dancer, corps professor, and a graduate in dance from Cuba’s Escuela Nacional de Arte, and El Instituto Superior de las Artes. JUSTO CERUTO is a principal dancer of BAN RRA RRA, as well as one of the company’s instructors. He has been invited to perform and teach with BAN RRA RRA in Russia, Montenegro,  Justo also dances with the renown rumba group OSAÍN de MONTE. He is currently getting his masters in dance at the Instituto Superior de las Artes. Both are regular teachers/performers at Havana’s annual BAILE EN CUBA festival, teach/perform at PLAZA CUBA’s international dance workshops, as well as with the HAVANA DANCE ACADEMY.

4-week Beginner Casino & Rueda Series at A Time to Dance! Starts Thurs. Oct 27th

Hey Cuban salsa and Casino enthusiasts (or interested souls)! A new 4-week series of Casino and Rueda de Casino for Beginners is launching October 27th!  Hosted by instructor Vidal Cordova at A Time to Dance Studios in North Park, if you ever wanted to learn how to dance salsa, Cuban style or always wanted to join in on fun Ruedas but didn't know the moves, this class is for you!  We will introduce the basic fundamentals of Cuban Casino and Rueda, and will explore universal turns and patterns, proper stepping and leading & following techniques that will help you become a clear, smooth and confident dancer.

This class is perfect for those with little to no prior experience in Cuban dance, including dancers who already dance salsa in other styles and want to learn Cuban-specific steps to add to their repertoire. At the end of this session, you will be ready to begin intermediate-level steps and patterns at our next session!

This is a progressive 4-week series where each session will build on the last. No dropins after the first session.

They recently traveled to Havana, Cuba to take lessons from Cuban dance instructors and to meet the founders of Rueda de Casino in Havana. ORISHAS, the Cuban hip hop band that formed in 1999, and immediately took the world by storm with ORISHAS A LO CUBANO, is back on tour! Members YOTUEL ROMERO, RUZZO MEDINA, and ROLDÁN GONZÁLEZ, based in Europe, have reunited after an eight-year split, and will be performing again in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 3 at the REGENT!  Oakland's LOS RAKAS kicks off the evening at 8 PM. 18 years and over. SPREAD the WORD!

San Diego's 1st TIMBA-THON!  Join us for a night in Timba heaven with Casino Line-Dances, Plenty of room for Ruedas, Timba suelta and even Conga lines...why not?!!!  Plus a Couples Casino Dance Contest!!

The Casino Dance Contest is couples only.  Choreography isn't required, but if you have one, show us what you've got!  We just want to know who can Timbear' the best!  No applications needed. Just let us know at the door if you want to participate as contestants, and you'll be assigned a number. Dance Contest will start at 8pm. If you plan to participate, please arrive before then.
